Short summary of the page

Persons granted temporary protection who live at a private address and who are entitled to financial assistance under the legislation governing temporary protection may apply for financial assistance for private accommodation. Below you can find the conditions and the procedure for exercising this right.

What is financial assistance for private accommodation and who is it intended for?

Financial assistance for private accommodation is a form of financial support provided by the State to persons with recognised temporary protection in the Republic of Slovenia who do not have sufficient means of subsistence and do not have persons who are obliged under applicable legislation to support them. It is intended to cover rent and housing-related costs.

What amount of financial assistance for private accommodation am I entitled to and how is it determined and granted?

The amount of financial assistance for private accommodation for the applicant and each family member is determined according to the number of persons living together in private accommodation. The amount is determined as a percentage of the basic minimum income applicable on the date the application for financial assistance for private accommodation is submitted, i.e.:

Number of personsPercentage of the basic minimum income amount
1100%
2130%
3160%
4190%
5210%
6230%
7 or more250%

If the total amount of rent and other housing-related costs is lower than the amount you are entitled to according to the above calculation, you are granted only the amount specified in the rental agreement or the amount you require to cover rent and other housing-related costs.

Two years after the recognition of temporary protection status in the Republic of Slovenia, the amount of financial assistance for private accommodation is reduced by 15%.

The minimum income amount is adjusted in accordance with the cost of living in Slovenia. The current amount of the minimum income can be checked on the GOV.si website.
