Employment and access to the labour market for applicants for temporary protection

The applicable legislation in the Republic of Slovenia provides that applicants for temporary protection do not have the right to access the labour market.

As an applicant for temporary protection, you also cannot register with the Employment Service of Slovenia either in the Register of Jobseekers or in the Register of the Unemployed.

You may use the period while awaiting a decision on your status to:

  • obtain a tax number;
  • prepare a CV in the Slovenian language;
  • collect evidence of your educational qualifications, which you may wish to submit for evaluation to ENIC-NARIC (national academic recognition information centre) for the purpose of obtaining an opinion;
  • search for job vacancies.

Once an applicant is granted temporary protection status, they also gain the right to free access to the labour market. This means that you may take up employment, become self-employed or start a business without the need to obtain any additional permits.
